Expository Essay: Annotated Bibliography (See Student Sample)
This assignment will be the research you use to create your Essay Outline for your Expository Essay.
Your Expository Essay has five (5) parts:
Part 1. An Annotated Bibliography (50 points)
Part 2. An Expository Essay Outline with five (5) in-text citations from the references from your Annotated Bibliography (50 points)
Part 3. A completed polished first draft of your Expository Essay (50 points)
Part 4. An UpSwing Essay Review of your finished Expository Essay Draft (50 points)
Part 5. A final draft of your Expository Essay (200 points)
The Annotated Bibliography (For this assignment, you are only submitting Part 1.)
Part 1. An Annotated Bibliography of five (5) references you will use for your essay. Each Annotation should be at least eight (8) to twelve (12) sentences and have an MLA citation from the reference in the annotation. The last page of your Annotated Bibliography will be a completed Works Cited page in MLA format.Expository Essay Guidelines
For your Expository Essay Outline, Draft and Final Essay, you have the choice of two (2) types of topics: A traditional novel response to the course novel, or a current trend topic approved by your instructor.  All topics from choice 2 must be approved by your instructor.
Final Essay Topic Requirements Choice 1:
The subtitle of Shelley’s novel, Frankenstein, is “The Modern Prometheus.” In Greek mythology, Prometheus, the son of Lapetus, was punished for all eternity for stealing fire from the gods and giving it to humans.
View the Prometheus video below and search for Prometheus on the Internet. Construct an illustrative, also called an expository essay, in which you demonstrate that Victor Frankenstein is the modern Prometheus as Mary Shelley intended. Incorporate specific evidence such as quotations and examples from the novel to support and clarify and demonstrate your assertions. Avoid writing in the first person. 
Remember, this is not a comparison or contrast essay. You should think of a word, theme, or idea that applies to both stories.
Below are some possible topics: 
Adventure, Knowledge, Nature, Monstrosity, Secrecy, Fire, Playing God, Friendship, Love, Betrayal, Guilt, Remorse
Your essay must be a minimum of 1,000 words, five (5) paragraphs, and three (3) to five (5) typed pages.
You must use an MLA template, and have at least five (5) references (do not use Wikipedia).
Your essay must have at least five (5) internal citations.
Refer to the grading rubric for grade-specific parameters.
