Description
As a nurse practicing in a rural healthcare hospital and community setting, I am acutely aware of the significant impact our services can have. By addressing the diverse needs across the health system, we can enhance health equity from the individual to the system level. Our efforts, as part of a collective mission, to promote healthy behavior, educate the community about health issues, provide counseling, and support behavior changes, are not just individual actions. We also offer free health screenings and educational materials, providing these vital health services within the community and West Alabama areas as part of the West Alabama Prevention Center services. Our biannual health and wellness fairs, health screenings, and educational materials further reinforce our commitment to the community. As nurses, we understand the importance of follow-up and referrals, ensuring that our patients feel cared for and supported even after their initial visit.
Nurses are pivotal in addressing social needs at all levels, from the individual to the population. As nurses in a Medical Stabilization facility, we are at the forefront of treating substance abuse disorders and chronic diseases. These conditions, characterized by a range of cognitive, behavioral, and physiological symptoms, often lead to continued substance use despite the associated problems. We provide medical detox and facilitate referrals to long-term treatment facilities if desired. Our work is not just about treating the physical symptoms but about addressing the social needs of our patients, making us an integral part of the healthcare system.
My nursing journey is one of exciting and continuous professional development with the potential to impact healthcare globally. Becoming an American Holistic Nurse Certified (AHNC) is a significant step in this journey. This certification is not just a title but a testament to my commitment to patient care, focusing equally on the body, mind, and spirit. It will allow me to provide the best possible care for patients and contribute to a shift in the global healthcare paradigm from illness and disease to health, wellness, and well-being. (ANA). My years of experience in the hospice field have prepared me for this, and I am eager to enhance my skills with a BSN further, enabling me to become AHNCC. This commitment to professional development ensures that my skills and knowledge are always up to date, providing confidence in my dedication to patient care.
