Description
Class: MANA 4338: Performance Management Systems
OVERVIEW OF INDIVIDUAL PERFORMANCE GOAL ASSIGNMENTS
[Note: You only need to document 2 goals; however, if you want to do more than 2, you can but it doesn’t increase your grade on this assignment]
Throughout the semester, you will conduct a series of assignments that directly apply the best practices of goal setting, performance management, and performance feedback. Due to the nature of teaching this course in an undergraduate setting, we do not have actual job performance aspects to review. Therefore, to simulate several critical aspects of the performance management process, you will conduct a series of assignments that build upon each other in assessing your skills and application of what you have learned in this course.
Assignments:
Individual Performance Goals (SMART Goals–submitted via Canvas)
Peer-to-Peer review of Individual Performance Goals
Individual Performance Goals: 8 Week Self-Evaluation
Individual Performance Goals: Peer-to-Peer Feedback & Review session (recorded)
Because each of these assignments builds upon one another, it is advised that you put a good amount of detail and effort into the initial individual performance goal setting so that your future self-evaluations and future peer-to-peer discussions around your individual performance goals are sufficient (i.e., you have provided enough detail regarding what you aim to accomplish).
The purpose of these assignments is to:
Provide you experience with goal setting and applying best practices pertaining to SMART goals (and how to effectively assess and track those goals related to performance)
Develop skills related to conducting a reflective self-evaluation of your progress and success toward these goals at the end of 8 weeks
Apply feedback skills by conducting a peer-to-peer review, where you will be partnered with a classmate to review both your initial goals (this document) and your self-evaluation on your progress (assignment #2). In this video-recorded session, you will provide constructive feedback of your peer’s goals and progress—as if you were conducting a performance review session. Unlike a job-based performance evaluation, where you are evaluating a subordinate’s work, in this scenario, you are evaluating your peer’s performance toward their established goals that they set during the initial assignment.
This assignment will be evaluated based on the following criteria:
How well defined your goals are and how well you apply the Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Timely format (SMART GOALS)
At least 1 goal needs to be a “stretch goal” that you have a 50/50 chance of completing in the next 8 weeks
All of these goals need to be something that you, personally, have control over and could see some progress or obtain progress toward these goals in an 8-week span
