Writing Project #1 What’s On Your Mind?

Description

This assignment will also give you focus on narrowing your focus on a given topic (it’s more difficult than you might think).
Avoid the urge to do research–we will get into that can o’ worms later in the semester, so for now, keep your own mind, and think your way through your own ideas.

Now is as good a time as any to blow the doors off some of the old methods, approaches, habits, etc. that many of us picked up along the way–5 paragraph essays, writing to the “correct answer,”  suppressing our own voice and ideas, etc.  Instead, why not say something and truly mean it?  Let your writing begin breaking down the misconception that school and our daily lives aren’t necessarily connected.

This first essay is a good means of calibration for both of us–for me to see how you write, and for you to see how I grade.  That’s a good time for a lower point value.

One requirement I have is that you email me the question with which you’re wrestling–for example: “How The Hell Did Taylor Swift (TS) Make It to the Top of My Playlist in 2023?”  That way, I know exactly what question you’re tackling for this paper.

Reflection prompts for WP # 1

Remember, you’ll need to answer these but they are to be treated as separate text from your essay.  Please respond to each prompt in 3 – 5 sentences.  I would recommend waiting to answer these prompts until you are either completely finished with your essay or very close to being finished.
Avoid the urge to exaggerate with this response, but why did you choose the topic you did for this essay?
