You may not make the same comments as your classmates, either to the main discussion question or respond to your classmate’s posts – YOU POSTINGS MUST BE ORIGINAL and must contain an in-text citation from a relevant source from class or outside of class. If you choose to bring something from outside class, you must explain how it is relevant to the prompt and the person’s post. This is the post to respond to : The act associated with college students that can be criminalized is underage drinking. On many campuses underage drinking occurs and there are not any laws that are enforced upon it happening in college. The most that colleges have done is make their campus a dry campus which prohibits alcohol use while being on campus. The law that I would enforce to put a stop to underage drinking on college campuses is to first separate all students that are under the drinking age and keep their dorms away from upperclassmen. I would create random room checks that would provide the students with the unknowing of when enforcement would come and search for alcohol drinks within their room. The reading reveals about the concept of crime and criminality is showing how it is a social construct and is broken down by different power dynamics. The purpose of these concepts is social control, enforcement of normal and social norms and political and economical interest. These have not been used subjectively because the concepts are shaped by interest and other biases. Crime and its punishment is generally based on the public; it shows the social construction of the definition of crime. Overall crime is tied to race and labor because of the history behind it black codes and Jim crow laws made many things that African Americans do illegal and in today society it still exist because African Americans are over represented in the criminal justice system. because of systematic bias and inequalities being present til this day it makes it harder for certain races to obtain work or stay out of criminal justice system.
