Consider how societal influences impact the health and well-being of vulnerable populations. Also consider how, as an advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in healthcare, you can support these vulnerable groups. This Assignment points to one approach—to help educate colleagues in your healthcare field on how healthcare disparities are linked to societal influences. To make this goal more manageable and specific, you will focus your attention on one particular population that you will choose. You will prepare a narrated PowerPoint presentation for professionals in your healthcare field that explains healthcare disparities experienced by the focus population. You will also recommend interventions to improve healthcare equity and outcomes for this group. As you prepare your presentation, reflect on with whom you might share it in your healthcare setting. That is not required for the Assignment, but it may help you in identifying information to include and in creating a presentation that can promote action. To prepare:Identify the focus population. This may be a group in your community or region and/or a population of particular interest to your professional role. The focus population should be a vulnerable group based on race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, disability, and/or other determining factor(s) such as age. Be sure to choose a population for which you can find reliable information. Gather key data about the population to create a brief profile of this group. Analyze one (1) or two (2) major healthcare disparities experienced by the focus population to address in your presentation. Concentrate on healthcare disparities that are having the greatest impact on this group and for which you can recommend interventions. Explain causes of these healthcare disparities at the societal level. In your explanation, include issues of economics, education, environment, and/or social views, as well as racism and other types of prejudice.For each major healthcare disparity, look for examples of the impact on the focus group in terms of patient/client experience and quality care to explain in your presentation.Explain up to three (3) specific interventions that could reduce or remove one (1) or more of the major healthcare disparities for your focus population. Provide examples of how the interventions can improve health equity and outcomes for the focus group.Conclude your presentation in a motivating way.
