Description
ThinkingDiscussion: Module 1 – Critical and Liberatory Thinking
What to Do
This week, we are learning about how outside events such as the Black Power Movement, Feminist Movement, and Anti-War Movement influenced the emergence of Ethnic Studies inside of academia. All of these social movements exemplify a mixture of critical and liberatory thinking, as people grappled with a critique of existing social systems and dreams of creating something more free.
Critical thinking involves rigorous analysis of a situation. It involves questioning the status quo, challenging assumptions, and seeking to understand the power dynamics at play.
Liberatory thinking involves visualizing alternatives to a situation. It involves thinking outside the box, wondering what else is possible, and seeking to redistribute power more evenly across difference.
