In order to ensure this evidence is valid, there is a system to ensure quality and accuracy, and to ensure the integrity of the process. Research must meet qualifications to be considered as evidence for evidence based practice. It means that the research was done following specific rules and guidelines, and although not perfect, peer review ensures that this is the case. This process includes a review of research submissions that act as a quality check and ensure its validity (Zimba & Gasparyan, 2021). This group is usually a group of colleagues who are in the same field and can help to make corrections if necessary and help to evaluate journal entries. In order to become a part of this group of peers, there is also a specific selection process for that position. This also ensures that the group chosen meets certain standards and can span from places across the world (Zimba & Gasparyan, 2021). This quality control is essential for evidence based practice because it helps to ensure the highest level of accuracy possible. If this was not in place, there could be more biased research produced that may not be in the best benefit of the patient and may benefit other groups. Peer review is a way to help prevent corruption or misinformation being promoted as research. When looking at this research, both qualitative and quantitative research should be considered. The goal of qualitative research is to develop an understanding of perceptions of behavior, while quantitative is better used to make specific comparisons or provide statistical data. Both are important parts of research and are still subject to peer review. Quantative research is important to give unbiased information and straight forward results since it is more objective data (Tappen, 2023). An example of this in the clinical setting may the difference between using lab values, which would be quantitative, versus using the patient’s description of their pain, which could be considered qualitative. Both values give the nurse important information to treat the patient, but one the pain quality is much more subjective and cannot be inherently proven. This difference shows the need for both types when doing research to ensure understanding the complexity of many topics. Second Discussion When it comes to peer reviews, they are important for research and Evidence-Based Practice (EBP). They play a vital role by ensuring that studies meet the proper standards before they are published. This consists of the proper evidence and research by experts, in order to have the most reliable information with facts. The major advantage of a peer review process is that peer-reviewed articles provide a trusted form of communication. Since scientific knowledge is cumulative and builds on itself, this trust is particularly important (Kelly et al., 2014). This process involves experts in the field evaluating research to verify its accuracy, quality, and originality. By doing so, peer review helps maintain research standards by filtering out studies that are not clearly researched. It also enhances credibility, as peer-reviewed research is considered more trustworthy, which is crucial for EBP where clinical decisions rely on solid evidence. Additionally, peer reviewers provide constructive feedback, educating and helping to boost their work and minimize biases through diverse perspectives. Qualitative research focuses on understanding individuals’ experiences and viewpoints in depth. In contrast, quantitative research seeks to quantify variables and generalize findings across larger populations through statistical analysis. While qualitative research offers rich, detailed insights into complex issues, quantitative research provides data-driven conclusions that can be applied to wider groups. For example, in healthcare, qualitative research might explore patients’ personal experiences with a treatment, while quantitative research assesses its effectiveness across many patients (Barroga & Matanguihan, 2022). Qualitative research offers deep insights into human experiences and social phenomena through narrative data that reveals underlying mechanisms. In contrast, quantitative research provides numerical data to identify patterns, test theories, and make predictions.
